Rest in Pesce

It is with sincere regret that I must inform you that Marlin, the surviving Betta living in our bathroom, has succumbed to some pretty nasty fin rot and was flushed away to the Great Beyond.

When informed of the demise of her beloved pet, Viva turned her mouth down at the corners, blinked a couple of times and said, “I want a different pet. I want a cat.”

Shit.

My friend has an 18 year old cat. They sure hang in there - just like that poster says they do!

My last cat lived to the ripe old age of 18. I am not against a cat per se, but since we plan to move in the next few months, and don't know whether pets will be okay wherever we end up, that is not an option. Actually, I'd rather have a puppy, but again, same problem.

Over the weekend, Viva changed her tune again, and now wants a bird. Repeat after me: no way.

What about a turtle?

I am not against a turtle, except that I've heard they also carry diseases that can be harmful to little ones. At this point, I'm leaning toward a frog.
