Push a Little Harder, Dig a Little Deeper

Viva and I have an ongoing disagreement about the Sly and the Family Stone song, "You Can Make it if You Try." Rather than seeing it as a positive song of encouragement, Viva interprets it as some nasty cosmic joke. She insists they are singing, "You CAN'T make it if you try," and she gets really pissed when I try to explain that that is not the point of the song. It's a little early for this nihilist attitude, wouldn't you say? I wasn't expecting this until at least, say, age 6.

Uh oh. She has officially turned three, yes? Well, let the negativity begin! My girls were their worst at three and it continued until they got into kindergarten. You say black, they'll say white. I'm so glad my youngest has just gotten out of that stage! I feel your pain, baby!

You know, my hubs and I have periodically discussed how we couldn't stand our nephews between the ages of 3 and 5. We would still hang around them, but they would drive us nuts. This is payback, for sure.
